DIE WOCHENDEN is a German word neologism designed by Franziska Füchsl. She donated us words weekly, which we deconstructed together with kids aged from 8-11.
It was a combined project with German kids from the elementary school Reichenbach in 01069 Dresden and refugee kids of the refugee camp at Hamburger Straße in Dresden.
Tristan Dougan (http://tristandougan.com/), Eric Casper, Richard Hartl and I were going once a week to both places and we worked with the kids 60 minutes long. The word deconstruction took part with the German kids as we tried to give them a sense of language.
We tried to make them understand that language is just a tool of communication and, if you deconstruct it:
you see new ways and forms of language abilities.
While using games, painting and discussions, we build a bridge between German kids and the kids of the refugee camp. At the refugee camp we were working with translators who helped us organizing the games and paintings we were doing with the kids,
which were then played without language.
The philosophy of the Japanese Artist On Kawara inspired us to use date paintings for our documentation process. We made them (each week) to see how place and time affect the kids in learning.
The final encounter between the German kids and the kids of the refugee camp was at the Gallery HOLE OF FAME on the 26.02.2016. (http://holeoffame.blogspot.ch/)
We exhibited process works of the kids we made with them and also the photographs which were taken by our photographers Tom Herold and Julia Sloboda (http://www.traumweltleben.com/).
There happened also a workshop where we painted and played theatrical games with German kids and refugee kids together.
